Cruises from Greenwich

Viking's London base, and a genuine spread of boutique luxury alongside it. Worth knowing before you search: a third of what actually leaves this port isn't something we can find for you yet.

Who sailing from Greenwich suits

  • Anyone wanting Viking's London home port without a flight or a trip to Southampton. 71 of Greenwich's 120 sailings are Viking's, a consistent, well-reviewed Iberia, France and England product, 11 to 14 nights.

  • Anyone wanting genuine ultra-luxury from central London. Seabourn's Wild British Isles voyages run from a fortnight to a full 40 nights reaching Greenland, and The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection's Evrima runs short luxury hops to Bordeaux, Copenhagen and Barcelona.

  • Anyone drawn to boutique expedition-style sailing without the polar commitment. Ponant and Scenic Eclipse both call here, running the Hebrides and Irish Sea, and the Norwegian fjords.

When you'd be better off elsewhere

  • Anyone whose heart is set on Tauck or Emerald Cruises specifically. Both run a real, sizeable programme from Greenwich, 32 of the port's 117 sailings between them, more than a quarter, but neither is in our own search yet, so we cannot match you to them. See below.

  • Families with children. Every line we can actually search for here, Viking, Seabourn, Ritz-Carlton, Ponant and Scenic Eclipse, skews adult, by rule or by atmosphere.

  • Anyone wanting a short taster sailing or mass-market pricing. Nothing here runs under a week, and nothing here is mass-market. Tilbury or Southampton is where that lives.

A third of what sails from here, our own search can't find

Greenwich genuinely has 117 sailings a year, and we can only search five of the roughly ten lines that run them. That is worth saying as plainly as possible before anyone searches, because it is not a small gap.

Viking, Seabourn, The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection, Ponant and Scenic Eclipse are all in our own catalogue and search properly, 81 of the 117 sailings, a little over two-thirds. The other third, 36 sailings, belongs to Tauck, Emerald Cruises and three smaller polar-expedition specialists, Poseidon Expeditions, Heritage Expeditions and AE Expeditions, and not one of them exists in our system at all. Tauck alone is 19 sailings and Emerald Cruises 13, so between them they are a bigger presence at this port than four of our five searchable lines put together.

This is not the same problem as a line that simply doesn't sail from a port, which every page on this site already handles honestly. It's that these five operators are outside the roughly thirty lines our search engine has ever been built to recognise, a genuinely different scope decision, mostly river-cruise and small polar-expedition operators rather than the mainstream and luxury ocean lines the rest of the site covers. If a guest asks us to find a Tauck sailing from Greenwich, the honest answer is that we cannot, not that none exists.

So the straightforward advice: if you want Viking, Seabourn, Ritz-Carlton, Ponant or Scenic Eclipse from here, search away, it works properly. If you specifically want Tauck or Emerald Cruises, we are not the right tool for that search yet, and it is better to say so than to send you into a search that comes back empty or hands you something you didn't ask for.

Which lines board at Greenwich

Getting there

By river and rail

The terminal sits on the Thames at Greenwich, reachable by the DLR to Cutty Sark station or a short walk from Greenwich mainline station, both a few minutes from the pier. The Thames Clipper riverboat is a scenic alternative from central London.

By road

The A2 and the Blackwall Tunnel or Dartford Crossing bring most traffic in from the south and east; central London and the M25 both connect within half an hour or so in normal traffic.

By air

London City Airport is the closest, a short journey away, with Heathrow and Gatwick both workable via a longer transfer across the city.
